Need To Hire A Maid And Don't Know Where To Start?
If you are looking for help with the legalities of having a maid you should look at the following website: www.previred.com. Unfortunately it is all in Spanish, so you may need help if you are newly arrived, but it is a good place to start. Tell the company you are working with here about this website too, as many don't have much information to assist you in completing a contract with your maid. A contract is a legal document and should be entered into even with a part-time maid. You need to know your rights and those of your maid!

Karina is looking for work as a Puerta al fuera. At present she is working for me 5 days a week while my maid is on maternity leave. In late August my maid returns to work and so I can only offer Karina 2 days a week. She needs to work 5 days a week. If you are wanting a maid I can highly recommend Karina. She was previously a maid for Judy Squire, for anyone who has been around long enough to remember her, and Judy could not speak highly enough of her. I am equally impressed with Karina. She is punctual, works independently, shows great initiative, is great with my two 6 year olds and regularly plays with them. She understands simple English, but doesn't speak much. I would be happy for someone to take her for the full 5 days a week, as this would be best for her, but if there is someone wanting a maid for 3 days, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, that would work too.

Contact me at megedszy@hotmail .com for more information or you can contact Karina directly on 07 7968344 (after 8pm) or 09 74447777 (her husband's cellular).

Berna is a fantastic ‘puerto afuera’ (live out) nanna, she is still working for Mel Egginton, an Aussie expat until recently living in Santiago but now returned to Australia. Berna will be available from August to work fulltime work with a family. On behalf of Mel, I am happy to take calls and provide references for Berna. We would have employed Berna ourselves but that we happened to find a good nanna our kids are happy with in the meantime,

Probably the best reference I can give about Berna, is an extract from an email Mel sent me prior to our move over here to Santiago.....

> Truly, she is adorable. Her name is Bernardita however she likes to be called Berna. She is a very young and energetic 54 year old. ...She only works Monday – Friday for us however will sleep over whenever we need her to. It is actually hard to get her to finish work at nights. She comes in the morning by 7.15am at the latest and then I am generally trying to ‘push’ her out the door at 6.30pm as I hate her travelling home late. She cooks, cleans, irons and takes exceptional care of Jack. She has also travelled to Australia with me in the past (2 months in Melbourne in Jan/Feb this year) when I have had projects and even though she speaks no English she had no problems. ....She still has a family from England that she worked for before us for 7 years and they take her over to England at every opportunity to visit them as they really miss her. She is a well travelled Nanny!

Please provide anyone who may be interested my contact details: Donna Thibault. Phone (BH): +56 2 4443305; Mobile (AH): +56 9 78795850; Email: donna.thibault@orica.com. I would be happy to hear from families making the transition to life in Santiago and help out where I can.

Peruvian nana – Amparo.

She worked with us for 2 months and was always punctual, dedicated and hardworking. She has had a terrible time in Chile and is desperate to find work urgently. She is completely dependable and takes her job seriously.
She has three children, one of whom is only two called Juanito. She brought him to our house so as not to leave him to be looked after by her other young children.
He’s adorable and absolutely no trouble – very quiet and didn't stop Amparo from doing her job.
Amparo is wanting to start immediately and everyone concerned would be so pleased if she could find something over the weekend, or even today.
She will charge around $190,000 monthly, works from 9.00 to 6.00 and was always excellent with time keeping.

One more thing:
Her husband died some time ago and now in Chile she is completely on her own. She lacks a bed and a basic chest of drawers for her children's clothes and so if anyone can help it would be marvellous.

Her number is (08) 4589161

Our numbers are 4741868 and (08) 18 29 732.

Thanks for your time,

James and Penelope

I have moved to an apartment and don't need her full time that is why I am letting her go. She will work for me one day a week until she finds something permanent. My kids and dog love her (me too) and of course don't want her to go but we are putting her best interest ahead of ours.
