Quilting Classes
As many of you know, in my free time I am an avid quilter. I think some of you may be future addicts too.

I am going to teach a beginners quilting class on Friday mornings in my home starting in September. The class is 8-10 weeks. The format is that each student makes their own crib size or lap size Sampler quilt. Each week we learn a new block which teaches a new technique. No previous experience is needed. You do not even need to know how to sew. If you can thread a needle and use scissors, you have the basic skills required. The class can be done by machine or by hand.

The cost of the class will be $50,000 plus your fabrics. It can be paid monthly in two cuotas of $25,000. All proceeds (probably 95% of the fee) will be donated to Taller Esperanza, a workshop for developmentally disabled adults. (By the way, some of the participants of the workshop are also learning simple patchwork - If they can do it, you can too!)

The class will be taught in English and probably Spanish too. Every time I have taught it, there have been some Chileans, so usually I teach in English with simultaneous Spanish translations, making it an interesting intercultural exchange.

Summary-
Start Date: Friday, September 5
Class Dates: Sept. 5, 12, 26, October 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 (skipping Sept 19)
Time: 10-12
Location: my house in Los Dominicos
Cost: $50,000 plus fabric

HAIRDRESSER
Peluqueria V&V
is a great hairdressing salon.
Ph. 2466757

Veronica was trained in the US and speaks great English (as does her daughter Veronica, who works with her), making it very easy for newcomers to get their hair cut and coloured well. I have been going to her for nearly two years, after she was recommended to me by Kirstine Smith and Wendy Watson (former CAC members), after a couple of very ordinary hair cuts!

Address: Centro Comercial Lo Castillo, Candelaria Goyenechea 3820, Local 158, Vitacura. (Cnr Av Vitacura and Candelaria Goyenechea. Centro Comercial Lo Castillo is the name of the building - it also has 'The Platinum CLub' in it - a men's club!, and most taxi driver's know it. When you get to the building. V&V is on the right hand side and down the side of the building, on the ground floor.)

Dried fruits and Organic Stuff
For those of you who live close to Providencia - or who like to travel down that part of town, I wanted to let you know about a great little shop I stumbled upon yesterday. Its called La Chakra and it is a vegetarian cafe/restaurant/shop and stocks natural beauty products and dried fruits (bananas, strawberries, tomatoes) and organic vegetables and fruit and teas. They even stock dates and (while out of stock yesterday!) the thick dark brown sugar a few of us have been looking for. They also have a cranberry juice concentrate - great for when it hurts to pee! I had a coffee and a muffin. Both were realy yummy.

They are located on Mariano Sanchez Fontecilla 534 Las Condes. This is near the corner of Tobalaba and Presidente Erraruriz and near the Stadio France. Website is
www.lachakra.cl and the phone number is 234 2138. They will home deliver. They are open 7 days a week.

They stock products for diabetics, those with coeliac disease and vegans. Check the website.
